Who we are
Ahmed Kutty, M.D.
Dr. Kutty is a 1962 honors graduate from the Stanley Medical College-University of Madras, in India. Following his residency at the Metropolitan General-Lutheran Hospitals in Cleveland, OH, Dr. Kutty completed his fellowship in Cardiology at the University of Missouri Hospitals and Clinics in Columbia, MO and the Graduate Hospital-University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Kutty is a fellow of the Royal Colleges of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, and the Society of Angiography and Intervention.
Alain Efstratiou, M.D.
Dr. Alain Efstratiou received his medical degree from the Athens University School of Medicine, in Athens, Greece. His internal medicine internship and residency was done at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Washington, D.C. and his Interventional Cardiology Fellowship was completed at the Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago, IL and at the Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma Park, MD. Dr. Efstratiou is a fellow in the American College of Cardiology as well as the Society of Cardiovascular Angiography and Intervention.
Iyad Khader Azzam, M.D.
Dr. Iyad Azzam received his medical degree from the University of Baghdad, College of Medicine in Baghdad, Iraq. His internal medicine internship and residency was done at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center in New Jersey. His Cardiovascular Disease and Hypertension Fellowship was completed at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and Medical School in New Brunswick, NJ and the Interventional Cardiology fellowship was obtained at the University of Miami, Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, FL. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, General Cardiology, and Interventional Cardiology and is the only physician in Nebraska performing OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) and the only cardiologist in Kearney, NE performing Aortic Balloon Valvuloplasty. Dr. Azzam is a fellow in the American College of Cardiology as well as the Society of Cardiovascular Angiography and Intervention.
Valerie Fredericksen, Nurse Practitioner
Valerie is a nurse practitioner in our office. She graduated with a Diploma of Nursing from Saint Joseph School of Nursing and then returned to complete her Bachelor of Nursing at Briar Cliff College. She obtained her Masters Degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Before joining Midland Cardiology Group, Valerie worked in the catheterization laboratory at Good Samaritan Hospital. She has over 20 years of critical care experience to include caring for patients who have had open heart surgery as well as those with neurology and cardiac related illnesses. She holds a certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner, a critical care nurse (CCRN) and a cardiovascular nurse (CVRN). Val is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. She is married to Randy and has two daughters.
Sharri Miner, Office Manager
Sharri Miner has been with Midlands Cardiology Group since its inception in 1997. She has a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Kearney State College (University of Nebraska-Kearney). Sharri worked at Good Samaritan Hospital for ten years prior to joining Midlands Cardiology Group. As the group’s office manager, Sharri is responsible for all managerial and day-to-day operations of the practice, to include all financial, billing, collections, and personnel aspects. She is a member of the MGMA, NMGMA, AHA, Leadership Kearney Alumni, Kearney Chamber of Commerce and Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Sharri is married to Scott and has daughters Caprice and Morgan, and a son, Logan.
Monica Rothenberger, RDCS/RVT
Monica is the Director of our cardiovascular lab. She is a Registered Diagnostic Cardiovascular Technologist and a Registered Vascular Technologist. She graduated from Southeast Technical Institute in Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 1997. She has been with us since 2000 and performs echocardiograms, stress tests, carotid dopplers, venous dopplers, and arterial vascular studies. She also does varicose vein screenings. Monica manages our implantable cardiac device department. She is married to Neal and has two sons, Aaron and Adam.
Crystal Robinson, RN
Crystal Robinson is a Registered Nurse. She graduated from BryanLGH College of Health Sciences. Before working at Midlands Cardiology, Crystal was employed by Good Samaritan Hospital’s Catheterization Laboratory. She puts to good account her cardiovascular nursing skills acquired during her experience while working on the cardiac intensive care unit while at BryanLGH. Crystal is in charge of our anticoagulation clinic and lipid clinic. She is married to Ryan and has a son, Eli and a daughter Harper.
Jenna Georges, RN
Jenna Georges is a Registered Nurse, BSN. She graduated from Creighton University, and has worked in the cardiac arena since 2006. She worked on the Critical Care Unit at the Creighton University Medical Center, and most recently, in the Disease Prevention and Rehabilitation Department. While employed at the Cardiac Center she was responsible for conducting exercise/nuclear stress tests and monitoring cardiac rehabilitation sessions. Jenna is engaged to be married in the fall of 2012 to John, and she enjoys spending her free time playing with their three dogs, working out, and carrying out house projects.
Rachel Vanderbeek, Clinic Coordinator
Rachel Vanderbeek is the Clinic Coordinator for the office. Rachel has a degree in Health Information Management which she obtained from Central Community College in Hastings, NE. She is the initial contact for all the patients coming into Midlands Cardiology Group. She is responsible for all general administrative functions of the front office. She helps ensure that the scheduling aspect of the practice is coordinated. This includes the outreach clinics as well as the daily clinic schedules. She also manages the transcription/dictation process for the practice. Rachel is married to Greg and has daughters Claire and Sophie, and a son, Will.
